Scrub wrens and rainforest warblers place their very obvious nests at the end of spiny vin tendrils thereby hoping to escape tree snakes.

With complex structures and distracting blind entrances, there are several in the photograph that could easily be confused with snickets of twigs and dead leaves.

Giant stinging trees also act as a deterrent since even the bark can impose a nasty sting.
